World Leading

Life Sciences

County Waterford is fast becoming a major hub for life sciences in Ireland thanks to a growing mix of manufacturing, R&D, and support infrastructure. The region supports over 10,000 jobs in pharmaceuticals, biotech and medical technologies — including big names like Bausch + Lomb, Teva, Sanofi, and others.

A recent major development is Repligen’s expansion, which is adding a new 33,000 square-foot facility set to create about 130 new jobs over the next few years.

Q1 Scientific is expanding its stability storage operations in Waterford, adding 10,000 sq ft to meet demand from pharma and medical device clients. Waterford’s strength comes not just from the companies already here, but its ecosystem: a solid pipeline of talent from SETU (South East Technological University), special research centres (PMBRC, SEAM, Walton Institute, Arclabs), and a network of innovation hubs and incubators.

There are also attractive sites available for growth, and increasing supports from state bodies and investment agencies.

One of Waterfords vibrant co-working spaces, Boxworks is home to several, successful SMEs

Arclabs Fosters the growth of young, knowledge-based companies by providing infrastructure, business support services, and access to researchers.

Transport

An easy place to get around

As a compact, well connected city, Waterford offers commuters easy, stress free travel to work via a modern public transport network and a range of active travel initiatives

Waterford is now even better connected to Dublin and the wider region. The city is reachable by road in under 90 minutes via the upgraded M9 motorway linking Dublin Airport and city centre, while robust connections to Cork are maintained along the N25—with investments of over €250 million in the New Ross bypass route reinforcing Waterford’s role as the Gateway to the South East.

Additionally, there are now 10 daily rail services between Waterford and Dublin City Centre, with average journey times under 2 hours, early commuter options, and onboard Wi-Fi to help passengers hit the ground running.

Experience

Working in Waterford

Ruth Beadle

Accessibility is very important in my line of work and the M9 motorway has really helped. With Waterford, you get the benefits of a small and cosy community but you don’t feel that sense of being remote, whether in relation to people or product.”
